Course programme

Year 1

You will develop skills and knowledge of media processes through a series of integrated assignments. These will involve both practical and theoretical work.
This programme comprises 180 credits.
Year one units are:
Pre-production; communication skills; research techniques; understanding the creative media sector; single camera techniques; music video production; writing copy; page layout and design; photography; and print production.

Year 2

Working to a brief – this unit aims to take the learner through the whole process of working to a brief from initial negotiations, through the process of developing and realising ideas in liaison with the client to final self-evaluation on completion of the work.

Critical approaches to creative media: this unit is about understanding and identifying audiences, and targeting specific media products at particular groups, reflecting relevant drivers.

Other units include: factual programme production for television; presentation techniques for broadcasting; music-based programming; digital communication; web authoring; and corporate and promotional programme production.

Additional information

All units are assessed through practical assignments. You will receive formative assessments and feedback that will inform you of the grade you are working towards. We will set targets that inform you how to improve. There are no examinations or external assessments on this course.
