2. Course description Summary: A general art and design course Course description: Enjoyable, varied and challenging; this course is the equivalent of three AS Levels and is designed for those who are not yet sure of which specialist area of Art and Design they would like to pursue.You will be introduced to a range of mediums and different disciplines; such as painting, print-making, drawing, textiles and graphic image making; Design and Fine Art approaches to thinking and problem solving will be explored. You will study 9 units which have been designed to enable your development, understanding, awareness and application of visual language and communication. As you progress, you will be encouraged to review and evaluate your work; using analytical and communication skills to make informed progression decisions about individual pieces of work, projects, portfolio preparation and progression into year two or related work. To progress into year two you will need to achieve a Merit or above in your final exhibition of work. The UAL 180 Credit Extended Diploma will give you the opportunity to work more independently through a self-generated final major project, which will be exhibited in an end of year show. Math and English Study and support Students will continue to develop their English, Math and ICT skills, all of which are embedded in the creative and visual projects. It is compulsory for Learners who do not have a grade C in Math and / or English to undertake a GCSE or Functional Skills programme of study alongside their Visual Art course.
