About this course

Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. English and an art/design related GCSEs at grade 3 (D). Maths at grade 3 (D) or above is desirable. You will also require a portfolio which demonstrates your suitability for your chosen course.

Course programme

Year 1

The course units include: graphic design, photography, drawing, contextual studies and a personal project. The first two terms deal with basic skills and assignments in the specialist graphic and photographic areas and also include creative screenprinting and sketchbook development sessions.

The final term gives you the opportunity to undertake a major project of your choice.
The units studied are: contextual studies; 2D and 3D visual communication; using ideas to explore, develop and produce art and design; building an art and design portfolio; working in the art and design industry; working with graphic design briefs; and working with photography briefs.

Additional information

This course contains practical assessment only, via formative and summative practical project assessments. Students are given open access to studios and workshops where self-directed and supervised study can take place outside of classrooms. There are no examinations.
