The course is for people aged 16 and over who are interested in developing their ability to produce visually and technically competent collections of photographs based on specific themes. It will particularly appeal to students who want to communicate their ideas visually; who are interested in the relationship between art and photography, enjoy looking at and discussing photographic work and want to engage with practical project-based photography.

Course programme
At the end of the course you should have developed a strong ability to communicate your ideas through the medium and have developed a sense of visual literacy that allows you to appreciate the language of photography, painting and film.
Entry to Higher Education photographic courses is contingent on a strong portfolio of work and this course will provide you with the opportunity to prepare a portfolio for application to HE institutions.
You will learn how to shoot, process, edit, print and present your own black and white photographs on specific themes. These are:
You will be instructed in the use of 35mm SLR cameras as well as conventional darkroom practice allowing you to make your own black and white photographs. You will also learn about the history and development of the medium and become familiar with a range of important photographers′ work.
