The Museum Studies concentration is a Bachelor of Arts degree program offered in the Department of Art. Museum Studies is an important emerging field in art. The museum studies program at GC is one of few undergraduate programs offered in the U.S.
Students will learn and understand the internal operations of a museum organization through the classes that are offered. The courses include Introduction to Museums Studies, introduces students to lectures, lab and gallery work, discussions, slide presentations and field trips to museums, where students learn about the history and functions of museums, their missions, diverse collections, exhibition programming, interaction with its audience and community and learn the organizational structure within a museum. Exhibition Design presents the study of museum and gallery design principles and exhibition construction techniques. Critical & Curatorial Theory & Development focuses on curatorial principles, how a curator researches and critically selects artists for exhibitions, develop exhibitions and collections and work in a museum environment. Museum Administration focuses on museum administration and its organizational structure.
The Art Department encourages Art Majors to include at least one summer semester to Study Abroad (recommended-not required) in Montepulciano (Italy), Madrid (Spain), Paris, Bahamas, etc. (Scholarships and other funding sources are available.)

About this course
The Museum Studies concentration is a focused study on museums and future employment opportunities within the museum field. Studies culminate in a public presentation, at a professional level, of an original creative research project produced during the senior year.

Demonstrate competence in one foreign language at the level of the fourth university course (2002).
Electives
Students are strongly encouraged to use their elective hours to develop a minor concentration in another field related to their career aspirations or chose a secondary area in art (Fine Art Studio, Graphic Design, Art History). It is strongly recommended that students take ARTS 2630 Graphic Design Studio I and additional Art History classes to fulfill elective hours.
