2. Course description The art of communication will look at ways to improve communication. It will look at body language in terms of secret signals, common gestures and how to build rapport. Effective listening will be thought about in terms of paying attention to what isn't said, the difference between listening and hearing as well as the importance of empathy. The course will examine how paralinguistics emphasise what is being said, why tone and pitch can dramatically alter the meaning of what is being said and other non-verbal elements of speech. Overall the course will give the learner a whole new way of looking at communication.

3. Entry requirements None except a keen interest in the subject. 4. Equipment required Paper, pens or pencils, optional A4 binder for storing notes, handouts etc. Basic stationery. 5. Assessment method Teaching methods will include tutor explanations, group work, the use of video and internet material where possible, handouts, and PowerPoint presentations. If you wish notes in class can be taken.
