Upon successful completion of the course candidates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills associated with arterial blood gas sampling, to gain clinical competence under the supervision of a competent practitioner.

This course is suitable for nurses, doctors and other allied health professionals who are required to perform the procedure as part of their role.

■ To have a clear understanding of associated anatomy and physiology

■ To be able to understand the reasons for performing arterial blood gas sampling and the Allen's test

■ Be able to read and understand blood gas results

■ Be able to perform arterial blood gas sampling safely and competently
