Entry requirements & how to apply
Minimum requirements 2:1

BSc or BEng with 2:1 honours in Engineering or other relevant subject e.g. physics, mathematics, computer science.

In order to meet the academic entry requirements for this programme you should have a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree with a final mark of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme. If you are still studying you should be achieving an average of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme.

We also welcome professional or occupational qualifications and assess them on an individual basis.

Applicants should also have :

a sound background in basic mathematics, in particular familiarity with standard concepts of calculus, linear algebra, differential equations and elementary probability theory.

competence in computer programming to the level expected at the end of the first year of a BSc honours degree in computer science.

Course detail Description

The Artificial Intelligence MSc will prepare you for work developing intelligent software systems. You can choose to study a wide-range of topics such as: Agents & Multi-Agent Systems, Pattern Recognition, Neural Networks and Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence Planning, Nature-Inspired Learning Algorithms, Philosophy & Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, and Data Mining. There is also the opportunity to explore a range of optional modules allowing you the freedom to develop your study pathway to reflect your interests. You will complete the course in one year, studying September to September and taking a combination of required and optional modules totalling 180 credits, including 60 credits that will come from an individual project

Course format and assessment

Teaching

We use lectures, seminars and group tutorials to deliver most of the modules on the course. You will also be expected to undertake a significant amount of independent study.

You are expected to spend approximately 10 hours work per credit for each module you attend in your degree, e.g. 150 hours work for a 15 credit module. These hours cover every aspect of the module.

Assessment

The primary method of assessment for this course is a combination of written examinations, essays, coursework and individual or group projects and oral presentations. The individual project will be assessed through a 15,000 word report.

You will be able to select up to 30 credits from a range of level 6 modules, which may typically include:

* These modules are not available if you have previously studied in the Department of Informatics and have already taken this module at Level 6.
