This is a part time/day release course over 3 years of study. To gain the qualification 16 units need to be completed and 240 credits need to be achieved. This Degree is designed for those students with Level 3 qualifications (such as BTEC or A level) and mature learners (25+). A range of skills will be developed as part of the learning programme and will include:

•            Communication by written report, proportional sketches, scale drawing and specifications
•            Correct use of specialised terminology commonly used within the industry
•            Problem-solving in relation to materials and methods of construction
•            Working with others in a small group environment
•            Developing appropriate undergraduate study skills related to the acquisition and use of construction information
•            Demonstrate engagement in Personal Development Planning.

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a FdSc.

Course programme

After successfully completing the course, students may progress to an Honours degree in Architectural Technology and employment. Students have the opportunity to develop a career within the built environment, particularly in architecture, design and planning. Students are encouraged to apply for membership of CIAT. The awarding body is Anglia Ruskin University.

Entry requirements shall be equivalent to passes in one of the following:

An accredited Access Certificate.
One subject at A Level, supported by passes at Grade 4 (C) in four other subjects at GCSE.
University recognised standards of the NCVQ.
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma, Diploma and, Subsidiary Diploma.
Employment as a trainee in the professional/technical areas of construction is desirable.

In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a professional interview.

Assessment:

All units will be internally assessed using predominantly coursework, short tests, assignments, etc. Work will be graded according to the following calibration.

A = 70% or more
B = 60% - 69%
C = 50% - 59%
D = 40% - 49%
E = 35% - 39%
U = 34% and under
