AS/A2 3D Design, Design, Drawing and Making
The course is designed to enable you to:
Develop Sculptural related skills in using a variety of media, processes and techniques
Gain knowledge of historical and contemporary sculptors, styles and genres in sculpture
Gain knowledge of sculpture through research, development and production of your own ideas
Recognise and gain your own practical and critical strengths in sculpture.
Is it for me?
The course suits those with an interest in the design and making of a wide range of products, who wish to undertake further studies in art, craft and design. Assessment is predominantly coursework based with some practical examinations.
What's involved?
InductionIn this unit you will investigate and learn various skills and techniques that will enable you to work in a variety of materials with confidence and creativity. You will gain skills in using clay, plaster, cardboard and paper, drawings and development of your ideas.
Building your portfolio
You will be given a list of themes to research and investigate that will result in a final sculptural outcome. Themes could include the human form, natural environment or man and machine.
Personal Investigation
Develop a personal investigation based on an idea, artist, theme, movement leading to a final sculptural response. This will be a combination of 2D and 3D work.
Final Project
You will need to create a body of work in both 2D and 3D in a visually inventive way. You will need to look at the work of others, do observational drawings, take your own photographs add annotation and do a final evaluation. At the end of your research you will have fifteen hour timed test where you will produce your final sculpture.
Progression
Students who have previously studied sculpture have gone on to embark on careers in Fine Art, Special Effect, Gallery Assistant, Model Making, Animation, Art History, Teaching or setting themselves up as a practising Artist.
