AS/A2 Applied Travel and Tourism
The course is designed to enable you to:
Develop your knowledge and understanding of the travel & tourism industry
Develop your ICT and research skills in the production of coursework
Appreciate the positive and negative effects of the travel and tourism industry on individuals, the environment and the economy.
Is it for me?
The course suits those who enjoy travel and have an interest in the industry. You should have a lively and enquiring mind and be willing to explore new ideas. Assessment is by coursework except two units so students applying for this course should enjoy doing substantial pieces of coursework.
What's involved?
Destination Europe
In this unit you will look at European destinations, their attractions to different types of traveller and the development of new destinations.
The Travel & Tourism Customer
You will investigate the needs of travellers and how specific organisations meet the needs of their customers. This unit includes visits to destinations where you will evaluate the effectiveness of the service provided. Assessment of this unit includes role plays in which you will demonstrate your customer service skills.
The Travel & Tourism Industry
This unit looks at the scale and structure of one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the world.
Special Interest Holidays You will choose two special interest holidays and complete an investigation into their popularity and then devise itineraries for your chosen destination.
Responsible Tourism
This unit looks at the impact of tourism on the environment, the economy and the culture of the host country and its people.
Current Issues in Travel & Tourism
You will choose a topic in which you are interested and complete a research project on this subject. Previous topics have included the impact of the internet on the travel market and the impact of terrorism, wars and disease on tourism.
