What will I study?

The course largely consists of practical work, with a specialisation in the second year, and a written component, linked to practical work, to complete. The A2 consists of two units: a personal investigation and an externally set assignment. The AS will consist of two units of study each moderated out of 80 marks based on four assessment objectives. Unit 1 will consist of a portfolio a selection of thoughtfully presented work that demonstrates depth and breadth of the course and one extended collection of work, or a project based on an idea, concept, theme or issue. Students will be able to work in a variety of areas: drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, 3D, and photography with the addition of some critical analysis and gallery visits.

How is this course assessed?

The AS qualification consists of two units, moderated through four equally weighted assessment objectives, each unit representing 25%, marked out of 80, or if a one year AS qualification, 50% each.

What next?

A number of students obtain Foundation places on the Diploma in Foundation Courses (1 year) at either at Leeds College of Art, Batley, Bradford or Harrogate, as a pre-requisite towards a full Arts related degree course. Others obtain places directly through UCAS to take courses such as architecture, marketing, teaching, fine art, design, art history, fashion, product design or graphics. All students are given full assistance with their preparation, and in recent years, an increasing number of students has applied for such courses.
