Course programme
This course is for hard working students who have a passion for biology. You will need to carry out a lot of background reading around the topics studied in class in order to achieve top grades.
The course will develop your interest in the study of living organisms, as well as demonstrating the value and uses of biology in society. First year units include a study of molecules, cells, transport and evolution. Second year units include topics such as respiration, co-ordination, biodiversity, genetics and reproduction. You will develop the knowledge, understanding and skills related to biology. The course is designed to sustain and develop an enjoyment of, and interest in the study of living organisms and to recognise the value of and responsible use of biology in society.
You will be assessed through both examination and practical work.
At Coleg Gwent you have access to state of the art laboratories and equipment and our lecturers have over ten years' experience delivering the course.
Several trips are run throughout the year to give you experience of studying biology at university and to enhance your academic performance in ecology topics. A recent example -students took part in debates run by Cardiff University on 'the use to neonicotinoids upon bees'.
