AS/A2 Chemistry

Who is this course for?
The course is intended for those who wish to study and develop an interest in science, enjoy laboratory work and would like to understand more about the world in which we live. Chemistry at A level is essential for the study of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.

What will I learn?
The study of chemistry underpins all life as we know it.At AS level you will study atoms, bonds and groups, chains, energy and resources as well as learning practical skills in chemistry.At A2 level you will study rings, polymers and analysis, equilibrium, energetics and elements and continue learning practical skills.

Assessment
There are four units (2 at AS and 2 at A2 level) which are externally assessed through written examinations. Two units are internally assessed; these assess the students' practical skills. The

Assessment uses OCR set tasks and mark schemes.

On Completion Achievement / Progression
The course provides you with a foundation for study at a more advanced level. Taken with other A levels it will enable you to pursue one of many science courses in higher education, medical higher education courses and teacher training. It is also a good subject to choose as a basis for many careers in a wide range of disciplines from law to marketing.
