About this course

This course is for you if you have a keen interest in testing scientific theory and pursuing chemistry at a higher level.


The programme promotes an interest in the understanding of chemistry and in its applications, as well as developing an awareness of environmental and ethical issues and aspects of health & safety. You will study topics relating to inorganic, physical and organic chemistry. Practical and theoretical work is integrated to help you acquire a full range of skills. You will be encouraged to develop an awareness of the social and environmental impact of chemistry. You will be assessed through module examinations and practical work.


At AS:



  • The language of chemistry, structure of matter and simple reactions - atomic structure and radioactivity and how to control and use chemical changes

  • Energy, rate and chemistry of carbon compounds - chemical properties, structure and bonding, and organic chemistry


At A2:



  • Physical and inorganic chemistry

  • Organic chemistry and analysis

  • Practical exam
