AS/A2 Film Studies
The course is designed to enable you to:
- Deepen their understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of film
- Examine film from a variety of production contexts
- Develop creative and practical skills in film production.
The course suits those with a genuine interest in film and the film industry and who enjoy a wide range of cinema from different periods. You will also need to enjoy discussing your responses to films in class and in written work. Assessment is both exam and coursework based.
What's involved?
Exploring Film Form
This unit focuses on the micro features of film and the construction of meaning and emotion. You will analyse film in terms of genre, style, cinematography, performance and use these skills to create an analytical essay.
British and American Cinema
Learn about producers and audiences and the relationships between them. The unit also focuses on macro features such as genre and narrative. These features are explored through two national cinemas British and American.
Film Research and Creative Projects
You will be required to choose your own research question to demonstrate a deeper understanding of film. You could examine star, performer, genre or auteur, social and political issues or new technology.
Varieties of Film Experience - Issues and Debates
Study World Cinema and examine the contextual influences as well as film style. You will examine one film in detail as a critical study and explore issues such as spectatorship in issues such as shocking cinema.
Progression
Students who have previously studied Film have gone on to degrees such as Practical Film Making, Film and Culture and Film Studies.
