Course programme

In the AS course you will learn about France and the French speaking world via topics such as cinema, music, technology, health and family. You will have the opportunity to speak French in the classroom and in small conversation groups. You will become confident in the use of tenses in French and you will broaden your French vocabulary.
During the second year, you will study two Cultural Topics as well as The Environment, The Multicultural Society and Contemporary Social Issues. Grammar studied at AS will be consolidated and further developed. As before, in addition to speaking French in class, you will have a session with the French Assistant once a week.
There will be opportunities to take part in a one week residential trip at AS and a weekend in Paris at A2.
ENTRY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Grade B in French or equivalent foreign qualification.
ASSESSMENT:
AS and A Level: listening, reading and writing papers, and oral exams.
PROGRESSION:
A language qualification can lead to a very wide range of careers e.g. banking, teaching, sales, Civil Service, law, interpreting and administration. Languages are also often studied alongside other subjects such as politics, engineering, law or business although, these days, languages can be studied in conjunction with almost any other discipline. Skills acquired through the study of foreign languages are easily transferable to any career.
