AS / A2 GERMAN

Exam Board: AQA
Right from the start of your AS German course, you will have the chance to consolidate your knowledge and develop all your language skills, discussing a range of topics taking you immediately beyond GCSE. Working in a department graded as nationally outstanding by Ofsted, you will be taught in small groups, so you will get to know your fellow students very quickly and receive individual help from the teacher. You will experience a variety of different activities in language lessons, from listening to the news on the Internet to taking part in a class debate. You will also get the chance to find out more about German life and culture.

You can combine AS/A-level German with almost any other subject and studying a language will provide you with a good basis for further study or travel abroad. Many employers and universities greatly value languages and, whatever other subjects you choose at Paston, a language qualification beyond GCSE will be a great asset in the future. You do not have to be a languages specialist to take German at A-level, but many students do decide to carry on with their languages at university.

Germans really good! Because its in such a relaxed environment you learn so much more in such an enjoyable way. Rhiannon Bull (reading German and Politics at Nottingham University).

Studying German at A-level has been hard work at times, but very rewarding as you not only learn to understand and speak another language, you also learn about the country, its culture and history. Chris Welfare (reading Psychology with German at Essex University).

I am hoping to continue with German alongside Law at University, which will mean spending a year in Germany. With fewer and fewer people studying languages today, having the ability to speak another language is an invaluable skill and will open many doors career wise. Emma Wells (studying Law with German at Nottingham University).
