This course is about the practical application of ICT in nearly every aspect of modern day life. You will investigate the use of ICT by visiting businesses, listening to visiting speakers and researching technological developments. You will develop your practical skills through the advanced use of software from web page design through desk top publishing to advanced database development. This will be achieved by carrying out practical projects for local businesses such as wine merchants, builders and local restaurants.
You can combine ICT with a wide range of Science, Visual Arts / Media, Business and Humanities subjects. Many jobs today demand ICT skills. The skills you learn will undoubtedly enhance your job prospects, support your other AS/A studies and assist those who go onto university with their research and presentations.
ICT students go on to university to study Business, Information Systems and Computing but also go into all sorts of careers including IT, Business Administration, Human Resources and Teaching.
Throughout my 2 years at Paston, ICT has been the subject that I have really enjoyed. The course itself is taught in a way that suited my needs well. Having coursework units made the course a lot calmer and I did not have the stress that you get before that one exam that decides everything. The teachers are great and I would recommend this to anyone who has an interest in computers. Peter Jones (now studying Business Information Technology at Coventry University after A2s in 2009)
The AS Applied course in ICT has extended my knowledge and allowed me to make my own database and website. It has taught me more advanced word processing skills too, which have been useful outside College as well as in my other subjects at Paston. Nicole Morgan (continuing studies at Paston at A2 in 2009 and intends to go to University in 2010.
