The course is an exploration of the practice, theory and art of photography which introduces students to a wide range of influences, approaches and technologies, both digital and analogue, allowing them to develop their own creative and technical skills. The emphasis is on producing creative work based on an understanding of the techniques involved, with reference to the work of exemplary practitioners in the field.

Course programme

AS Photography: Introduction to the basic principles of photography, practical experience of historical processes showing how current technology and practice has developed. How to creatively use analogue photographic equipment to produce high quality studio based images by setting up and controlling lights, camera controls, film processing and printing, presentation.How to use traditional and contemporary technologies to communicate ideas in single images and sequences. A Level Photography: Familiarity with using cameras and making creative decisions under pressure in street photography: How to use photography as a medium of communication in a self-chosen documentary project: How to plan, resource and execute a project entirely of your own choosing from initial idea to final presentation. The course is an excellent way of gaining skills in planning, resourcing, carrying out and bringing to a conclusion any kind of creative endeavour. It also develops the student’s ability to assess and evaluate their own work and progress honestly and meaningfully in such a way as to find the best way forward in a project, overcome obstacles and take advantage of unexpected events. This course is delivered at our Park Lane Campus. It is a suitable path toward careers and/or further studies in photography, creative arts, media, fashion and journalism among others. If you are aged 19 or over and considering enrolling on a further education course at Level 3 or above, you may be entitled to an Advanced Learner Loan to help with course fees.
