AS/A Level Economics

Why choose Economics?
Economics often appeals to students who are seeking a relevant and intellectually stimulating subject. Economists investigate not only issues such as unemployment, economic growth and development, inequality, pollution, international trade, membership of the European Union but also how firms decide on prices and output levels. By the end of the course students feel that they have a valuable insight into the workings of the economy and, in particular, the role of government in it.

Teaching and Learning Styles
A variety of teaching and learning strategies are employed including lectures, discussion, debates, role-play activities, computer games and simulations. Extensive use is also made of a variety of resources in the preparation of research projects.

Extra-Curricular Activities

We offer trips including a two-day trip to London in the first year during which students visit the Bank of England, Parliament and/or an Economics Conference.

Assessment
A variety of skills are developed during the course and tested in the examinations. Papers contain a mixture of multiple choice, data response, case studies and essay questions.

Progression Opportunities
Many students decide to study Economics at university either alone or combined with other subjects such as Maths/Statistics, Languages and Social Sciences.

Economics A level is also highly valued by many employers particularly the banks, insurance and accountancy firms.
