A Level Electronics

Why choose Electronics?
Electronics transformed our lives in the twentieth century and will continue to do so this century. This will require a new generation of technologists who need to be able to solve problems, think logically and adapt their ideas to new situations. Some background in electronics is useful for students intending careers in engineering and computing but this course also provides a good complement to Science or Art and Design courses.

Resources and Facilities
All teaching takes place in the laboratory. It is well equipped with computers, modern test equipment and tools.

Teaching and Learning Styles
There is considerable emphasis on practical work throughout the course. This will take the form of set practicals at the start, but will develop towards a project later on.

Assessment
The AS course consists of two examined modules, Units 1 and 2. Unit 1 is 30% of the total AS mark and unit 2 is 40% and will be taken in June. The coursework unit 3 is 30% of AS.

At present this course is only running as an AS, but it will continue onto A2 if there is a demand for it.

Progression Opportunities
A high percentage of students will go on to study a degree at university. A large number of these will study subjects closely associated with technology such as Engineering and Electronics.
