Why choose Food Technology?
Food Technology is an exciting subject based on the production of food for a mass market. New product development covers numerous angles such as: product appeal, properties of ingredients, manufacturing processes, quality control, health and safety, food science, microbiology, nutrition, marketing, packaging and distribution.

The food business is one of the most successful industries in the UK. Demand is approximately four times higher than the number of graduates leaving university, therefore career prospects are excellent.

Resources and Facilities
Food Technology is taught in the department of Health and Care. The department, which has recently been refurbished, consists of three theoretical rooms and a well-equipped practical food room. There are a wide range of relevant books and periodicals within the department and students have access to computers. Students will be able to develop skills in research, experimental work, taste testing, recipe development and practical techniques.

Teaching and Learning Styles
A variety of teaching and learning styles are used including question and answer sessions, discussions, researching, presentations, outside speakers and relevant visits.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Students have the opportunity to visit food manufacturers to view a variety of food production methods and there is an annual trip to the Good Food Show at the NEC.

Assessment
AS coursework portfolio (3 tasks - 60% of grade) plus one examination paper (short answer questions 40%).
