Government and Politics AS/A Level

Who is the course for?
This course is designed for students who are interested in current affairs and would like to increase their awareness of politicical issues.

What is the course about?
Most people do not know much about Politics. Yet it is one of the most talked about subjects in the world, and we are expected to understand the issues on which we have to vote. Studying Politics will increase your awareness of political issues, and develop your political views on an informed basis. You will study British politics at AS and American politics at A2. No previous knowledge of Politics is required to take this course.

Will I need anything else?
Students will need their own stationery. It would help your studies if you read quality newspapers (available in the library).

How long & often do I attend?
You will need to attend 3 sessions per week (4.5 hours).

How will I be assessed?
You will be externally assessed. In the first year you will sit 2 x 1.5hr exams and in the second year you will sit 2 x 1.5 hr exams.

What opportunities will this lead to?
You could progress to a BA Hons degree in Politics, International Relations, History or Media. Following this you could enter employment in a range of professions including Law, the Police, Journalism and the Civil Service.
