What does the course consist of?
  • In the first year we will study the origins of the American Civil War and the Norman Conquest of England and will answer questions like:
    · How did the issue of slavery develop in America?
    · What were the differences between the northern and southern states?
    · How effectively did Edward the Confessor deal with his problems as king?
    · Why did William win the Battle of Hastings?
  • In the second year we will study:
    · Hitler and the Holocaust
    · Civil Rights in the USA
  • You will take part in a variety of activities, including group work and discussion, and use a wide range of resources from books and handouts to videos and the Internet

How is this course assessed?
  • AS and A-level History are assessed through a combination of coursework and examinations, each involving essay writing and source analysis

  • History is a well regarded qualification which can lead on to many degrees, and is particularly useful as a preparation for careers which require you to think critically such as Law, Management and Journalism
