About this course

No subject-specific qualifications are required but you will need some experience of designing or working with different materials and of CAD (computer-aided design). Enthusiasm, adaptability, problem-solving skills and the ability to meet deadlines are also essential.

AS/A Level Product Design
Product Design combines engineering and aesthetics to produce functional products that will improve the quality of life. By means of exercises, research and practical projects you will learn to appreciate what is involved in the design and manufacture of products. You will learn how to identify the strengths and weaknesses of products and learn about selecting appropriate materials and manufacturing processes. You will be encouraged to take risks with idea.
Qualifications
No subject-specific qualifications are required but you will need some experience of designing or working with different materials and of CAD (computer-aided design). Enthusiasm, adaptability, problem-solving skills and the ability to meet deadlines are also essential.

Study Visits / Fieldwork

There will be at least one group study visit each year and examination work will involve individual industrial visits.
After the Course
Past students have gone on to study Architecture, Automative Design, Ceramics and Glass, Engineering, Furniture, Industrial Design, Interior Design, Marketing Design, Packaging Design, Photography, Plastics Technology, Product Design, Textiles and Urban Studies.
