Have you ever thought about becoming an NVQ assessor or are you looking for a job as a work-based learning assessor? This level 3 award in ‘Assessing Competence in the Work Environment’ at City College Plymouth replaces the old A1 and A2 assessor qualifications. Each of the new awards covers the essential knowledge and understanding that assessors require to meet the new QCF frameworks and to reflect changes in the practice of assessment and quality assurance.

What you'll learn

This qualification contains four individual pathways:

  • Unit 14.1 – this is a knowledge-only route for those who want to know about assessment, for example managers, and those new to assessment and applied learning
  • Unit 14.1 and 14.2 – this award is for those who assess in the work environment, using the assessment methods for learners’ work activities, eg observation of performance in the work environment, examining products of work, questioning the learner, discussing with the learner, use of others (witness testimony) looking at learner statements and recognising prior learning
  • Unit 14.1 and 14.3 – this award is for those who assess in workshop or classroom-based environments using assessment methods such as simulations, skills tests, oral and written questions, assignments, projects, case studies and recognising prior learning
  • Unit 14.1, 14.2 and 14.3 – this certificate is for those who use assessment methods and need to be qualified in all aspects of assessment
