About this course

It provides you with the opportunity to evidence your continued professional development and demonstrate competence at Assessment and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) in association with the requirements of the social work regulatory body.

This course also provides you with the underpinning knowledge required to meet the Chief Social Workers’ Knowledge and Skills Statements for Social Work.

This short course provides the opportunity for newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) to develop the skills, competencies and confidence required for practice.

You must be a newly qualified Social Worker registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and be in the first two years of employment in a Social Work role.

Course programme

Teaching and assessment

You will be taught through a series of seminars, lectures and workshops. Your studies will be supported by the University’s virtual learning environment.

Assessment will include the submission of a portfolio. Your module specification/course handbook will provide full details of the assessment criteria applying to your course.

Feedback (usually written) is normally provided on all coursework submissions within three term time weeks – unless the submission was made towards the end of the session in which case feedback would be available on request after the formal publication of results. Feedback on exam performance/final coursework is available on request after the publication of results.

Career support

This short course may assist you to meet the continuing professional development requirements stipulated by your employer/professional regulator, supporting you in the preparation of your practice portfolio and will provide evidence of continuing professional development, which is a requirement for your continuing registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
