Course programme
Health care professionals working with older people are required to effectively identify the risk of, prevent and manage falls. As a health care practitioner must be able to critically evaluate current practices and fully appreciate both the assessment and therapeutic interventions available if competency and effective care is to be assured.
This module aims to provide you with an appreciation of the patho-physiological processes involved and enable you to engage in and critically reflect on, assessment, treatment and monitoring of this health problem and hypothesise on its future impact on society.
You will study the definition of a fall, physiology of postural stability, risk factors for falls and associated risk factor tools, intervention strategies for preventing and managing falls and an overview of national guidance strategies.
