Once completed there are opportunities for a career in a training role, either within the assessment process or delivery of training in a relevant area of competence.

Entry requirements
You will require experience and occupational knowledge of your chosen field as well as access to candidates completing a competence based qualification e.g. NVQs.

Course content
The course will be delivered through three workshop sessions held at the college. The initial training session will discuss the NVQ process, followed by sessions to discuss how to plan effective assessments, judge evidence accordingly, give feedback in a constructive manner, assessor/candidate relationship and understand the reasoning of quality,completion of paperwork.

A1 assesses candidates using a variety of methods such as:

  • Develop plans for assessing competence with candidates
  • Judge evidence against agreed standards to make assessment decisions
  • Give candidates feedback and support on your assessment decisions
  • Contribute to the internal quality assurance process

A2 assesses candidates' performance through observation. A2 is purely for people who are in the workplace and are not required to judge alternative forms of evidence.

  • Agree and review plans for assessing candidates' performance
  • Assessing candidates' performance against the agreed standards
  • Assess candidates knowledge against the agreed standards

Course assessment
Development of a portfolio that demonstrates your ability as a competent assessor. Observation of your practice over the assessment period.
