Course programme

NEW Qualifications now replace the Unit A1 Assessors Award.

The new QCF Assessment qualifications work differently from the previous awards and the main difference is that Knowledge and Understanding has been separated out into a seperate Knowledge Unit. There are 3 Units in total, 1 Knowledge Unit plus 2 Performance Units, which are used in combination to create 4 qualifications as below.

There are now four new qualifications for assessors:

  • Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment
    • Unit 301 ONLY;
    • Aimed at: This qualification is intended for those who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of assessment without any requirement to practice as assessors;
    • This may include managers of assessors where the managers themselves will not be assessing and who wish to understand assessment and achieve accreditation for their knowledge;
    • It may also be a useful option for those people wishing to get into assessment by providing an accredited ‘first step’ which will permit them to move forward and extend their qualification when they have the opportunity to work directly with candidates and learners in an assessment environment;
  • Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment
    • Unit 301 AND Unit 302;
    • Aimed at: This qualification is intended for assessors who assess occupational competence in an individual’s work environment;
    • This is the replacement for the Unit A1 NVQ Assessor Award and permits the accredited assessor with this qualification to assess all types of competence standards (those standards which have performance as well as knowledge and understanding criteria/units), NVQs and In-House Competence Qualifications, that are assessed using a range of methods within the work environment;
  • Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement
    • Unit 301 AND Unit 303;
    • Aimed at: This qualification is intended for those who assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the work environment (for example a workshop, classroom or other training environment);
    • This qualification will permit the accredited assessor to assess such qualifications as VRQs and other standards which are assessed in a classroom or training room environment using written and/or oral questioning, exams, tests, etc. as the assessment methods;
  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
    • Unit 301 AND Unit 302 AND Unit 303;
    • This qualification is intended for those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (for example a workshop, classroom or other training environment);
    • This Certificate encompasses all of the above qualifications;
