Course Summary:
Derby College offers a range of high quality education programmes in partnership with the University of Derby. Its teacher training provision was graded outstanding by a recent Ofsted inspection (December 2015).
Building on this success, Derby College and the University of Derby are working in partnership to offer a new and innovative route to full qualification as an assessor, trainer, workshop demonstrator and/or coach in the FE sector.
In order to evidence the apprenticeship standards, the apprentice teacher will attend College on a Tuesday to study towards achieving:
A Level 4 Professional Certificate in Education and Training
A Level 4 module in coaching and mentoring learners to promote success (this is built into the teaching qualification)
A Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
A Level 2 Award in Prevent and Safeguarding...

Course Content: In order to evidence the apprenticeship standards, the apprentice teacher will attend College on a Tuesday to study towards achieving: A Level 4 Professional Certificate in Education and Training A Level 4 module in Coaching and Mentoring learners to promote success (this is built into the teaching qualification) A Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement A Level 2 Award in Prevent and Safeguarding strategies, with a whole unit devoted to anti-radicalisation A Level 2 qualification in Maths, if this has not been achieved prior to commencing the apprenticeship A Level 2 qualification in ICT to equip our future teachers with the skills for using ICT to enable learning How will I be assessed? The apprentice assessor-coach will be assessed using varied methods, including assignments, collaborative presentations, poster presentations and reflections. Alongside this, there will be a minimum of six observations of practice conducted by the College tutors. The apprentice will have a professional discussion to further evidence the standards. Assessment is robust, meaningful and developmental. Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? You need stationery only. What can I do after this course? You can: Secure a permanent position as an assessor-coach in the FE sector Progress to a full teaching qualification such as the Level 5 Certificate of Education (40 credits of 120 credits APL provided) Progress to a Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance
