Course programme

Create resilient, healthy and diverse urban environments
The Associate Degree in Urban Horticulture (ADUH) allows you to study plants in urban landscape environments, with a focus on issues of design, planning, implementation and management to support the health and wellbeing of the community and the creation of the liveable cities of the future.

Learn from the best
Our teaching staff has strong links with industry and many are research leaders. The Burnley campus is based on nine hectares of ornamental heritage gardens. You will have access to a green roof and wall demonstration centre, landscape construction areas, a pruning garden and experimental plots, a unique collection of indigenous and exotic plants, container and field nurseries, a horticulture library, research areas, training gardens for design and maintenance, and thousands of plant specimens.

Tap into our networks
With 125 years of history, Burnley has an extensive and successful alumni network, providing unrivalled employment and mentoring opportunities. Diverse experiences such as field trips to historic and contemporary gardens, production nurseries and urban landscapes are incorporated into the course, and the industry internship subject will kick-start your career by allowing you to develop your professional network and apply your new knowledge.

Get involved in green infrastructure research
The Burnley Green Roof was launched at the campus in 2013 and is the first of its kind in Australia. A training and research facility with living roofs and green walls, it provides demonstration and education to students as well as to industry professionals and researchers across Australia. The centre is a cutting- edge resource that will advance your knowledge of contemporary green infrastructure practices. You will have access to the facility in classes, and the centres researchers will teach some of your subjects.
