ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Students should have one of the following:
  • AAT Level 2 or equivalent accounting qualification
  • Relevant Work Experience
In addition students will have to have successfully completed the following:
  • Skills Test on Double Entry Book-keeping set by Course Co-ordinator
  • Interview with Course Co-ordinator
Potential students who have only a limited knowledge or understanding of double entry book-keeping are likely to find it beneficial to enrol on the 8 week Basic Book-keeping course at the college prior to taking the entrance test for AAT Level 3.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
The course is for those wishing to pursue a career in accountancy, and those who already work in this area and want a nationally recognised accounting qualification.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The AAT courses cover all aspects of accounting including financial accounting, management accounting and taxation.

HOW WILL I LEARN?
Level 3 students will be required to attend college for 2.5 hours per week over two years. In certain circumstances students may be able to complete in one year if they could attend for two sessions each week. This option would require an exceptionally high level of commitment and students would need to discuss their options with the course co-ordinator prior to making any firm decision.

Classes will combine conventional lectures with practical task based learning exercises. In addition to scheduled classes students are provided with work books which they are expected to study and work through at home. Students should expect to study at home for a minimum of 3 hours per week if course is taken over 2 years, and 6 hours per week if course is taken over 1 year. Students will also be given guidance on how to use the college intranet, including moodle.

Assessment at all levels is by a combination of central examinations and college based simulations set by the AAT, coupled with work based evidence where it is available.

WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?
On successful completion of level 3 the student will be able to continue to level 4.

On successful completion of level 4 the student will be highly employable in many accounting functions. They will also be entitled to claim exemptions from some stages of the chartered accountant qualifications. On completion of one year's relevant practical experience the student will be eligible for full membership of the Association of Accounting Technicians.
