Course review:
In the summer Sculpture courses will be organized in the studio’s of the sculptor Antonius Willems at La Montée in the village of Richemont in the southwest of France. The courses last for one week and are designed for beginners as well as advanced level, with the personal support of an professional artist and experienced teacher. You will work in a small group, which personalizes and intensifies your education. Materials and techniques will be explained to beginners. You will work with French limestone, alabaster or modeling wax or clay. At the advanced level, the focus is on the development of your personal style and to deepen an outlook on your own visual language. You will sculpt in wood, French limestone, alabaster, marble, granite, modeling wax or clay or welding steel. You will learn how to work with specific materials, professional and specialized tools and machines. A extensive range of modern tools are available on site.
La Montée is a Cognac farm from the 16th century which is located alongside the Antenne River, 3 km north of the medieval town of Cognac.
In the vicinity of La Montée you can choose from numerous accommodations like hotels, B&B’s or camping’s. Once your registration form and first payment are received, we’ll send you a complete list of localities and accommodation. You’ll have to make your own choice, we can help you with the reservation.
The ‘Pays de Cognac’ is known for its scenic landscape covered with vineyards, as if time has stood still. The region has a sunny micro-climate with many hours of sun. With the sea not too far away, more gentle temperatures are the norm. This inspiring region is one of the quietest places in France. It is a marvelous location for hiking, cycling, horse riding, golf, swimming and sailing. In Cherves-Richemont you’ll find the Chateau Chesnel. A 5 minute drive from La Montée brings you to the ancient part of the town of Cognac with the old cellars of the well known cognac brands, to the ‘Valois de François I’ Castle, to ‘des Arts de Cognac’ Museum, to sunny terraces and a choice of excellent restaurants. In Sainte-Brice (10 km) you’ll find a beautiful golf course. Less than an hour’s drive will take you to Château Rochfoucauld in Jarnac, the Pierre Loti Museum in Rochefort and the beach of Royan.
