Who is the course for?
This course is for people who wish to work with children but have no experience of childcare.
What is the course about?
The course will enable you to gain a basic understanding of the key areas in caring for children.
The course is in unit form and covers:
- Personal development
- Human growth and development
- Food and nutrition
- Health and safety
- Care of children
- Play
- Preparation for work.
You will spend some part of the course gaining experience in a work placement.
You will also study a range of basic skills as part of the course. These Basic skills enable you to demonstrate employability in the workplace, and they are a compulsory part of the course.
Will I need anything else?
A current Police Check must be carried out before acceptance onto the course.
How long & often do I attend?
This course is offered as a one year programme and requires attendance of several sessions per week.
How will I be assessed?
All units are assessed by unit assignments throughout the course. In addition, a short test paper is taken at the end of the course.
What opportunities will this lead to?
Progression to CCE (Certificate in Childcare and Education) or NVQ Level 2 in Early Years Childcare and Education.
