Course programme
The academic, practical and technical elements of this programme are balanced so that you can either develop your skills to sustain a career in the creative industries as a 'maker' or pursue further study.
The range of subject material supports these options as does the balance achieved through the study of core themes through self motivated practical and written projects. The core themes linked to the programme include:
- research and developing your practice to a professional standard
- the historical contexts for art and design disciplines
- current theories and contexts for art and design disciplines
- the contemporary creative industries
- sustaining commercial and non- profit activities through art and design practice
- promoting art and design practice.
You will be encouraged to develop and awareness of current research through lectures, seminars, tutorials and access to international research in the field of Creative Art and Design Practice. You will have access to Oxford Brookes School of Arts visiting lecturers scheme and will benefit from opportunities such as live student competitions.
Study modulesThe programme is designed to consists entirely of compulsory modules each spanning an academic year to enable deeper understanding of the conceptual, theoretical and practical skills relating to individual or collaborative art and design practice. Level 6 top-up modules- Collaborative and Creative Practice
- Critical and Contextual Writing
- Negotiated Study
- Personal Portfolio and Promotion.
At Solihull College a residential study trip may be available during the year. Costs of this trip are additional and vary depending on location. Recent locations have included Berlin and New York.
