About this course

The University of Surrey is one of the UK’s leading universities for aerospace engineering. As a BEng or MEng Aerospace Engineering student, you’ll have access to state-of-the-art wind-tunnel research facilities and be taught by world-leading experts in the field. Our close links with major companies will help develop your employment skills, and you can hone your practical, teamwork and leadership skills by becoming part of in one of our successful and dynamic student competition design teams.

This course is professionally accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Royal Aeronautical Society, and has excellent employability prospects. 90 per cent of our graduates go on to work in professional or managerial jobs within six months after graduation (Unistats).

A Professional Training placement provides you with the opportunity to develop your professional, academic and personal potential, equipping you to be adaptable, resilient, globally minded, confident, entrepreneurial and digitally savvy in the workplace. These qualities are widely recognised by employers and many of our students are offered employment on graduation by their placement provider.

The Professional Training placement year gives our students an insight into their subject and career potential, and early access to professional experience. It can be invaluable in developing work-based skills and helping them secure a graduate career.

Most of our graduates proceed directly to employment in an engineering profession. Recent graduates have entered employment in roles such as:

GE90 Strategic Propulsion Engineer, GE Aviation
Graduate Engineer, Rolls Royce
Graduate Engineer, Siemens Rail Automation
Graduate Flight Physics Engineer, QinetiQ
Mission Systems Engineer, Airbus Defence and Space
Quality Engineer, Thales UK
Telecoms Satellite Designer, Airbus.
As well as enjoying an outstanding choice of routes to professional recognition in their own disciplines, our aerospace engineering graduates also find that their highly developed computer skills and analytical and managerial abilities are valued in many other fields.
