Course content:
You will study:

Marine Propulsion Design STC 310
Design criteria of: main and auxiliary diesel engines, boilers,steam turbines, gas turbines, electrical propulsion systems and shafting systems. The emphasis of this unit is on the part-design utilising mini-projects. Formal inspection utilising Marine Classification rules and procedures.

Assessment: 80% Mini-projects/20% Formal Survey Report

Further Mechanics STC 311
Advanced methods of vibration and stress analysis. Matrix methods, Holtser's method and Rayleigh's principle for thermal, stress and fracture mechanics assessments. Condition monitoring; vibration and acoustic emission.

Assessment: 100% Coursework

Project STC 312
Major independent project of student's choice, Investigating a process or product, with a strong emphasis on engineering.

Assessment: 100% Coursework.

Course structure:
B Eng Degree Programme: Two semesters each of 15 weeks duration.
B Eng (Honours) Degree Programme: A further 15 week semester.
