  • Core Units Applied Professional Practice

    The unit is built upon two learning blocks; personal learning tutorials (for formative assessment) and 50 hours of applied professional practice. Learning Block 1. How to Become an Expert through Professional Practice: (a) Professional Practice and Becoming a Recognised Expert? (b) Metacognition: the skills for Becoming Self-Aware and Developing an Awareness of Others and Situations; (c) Identifying and Customising Competencies and Skills; (d) Discovering Opportunities to Develop and Showcase Expertise. Learning Block 2. Continual Development and Achievement through Practice: (a) Achievement and Using Setbacks as Learning Opportunities (b) Achievement: What Motivates People to Develop and Continually Practice to Achieve (c) Becoming the "Go To" Expert. Two workshops will be integrated into the unit to develop professional blogging skills and a critical awareness of issues associated with blogging for professionals.

    Managing and Evaluating Events

    Students will draw on previous unit assessment planning and reporting document to produce an event plan inclusive of an event schedule, technical report, logistics and operational plan. The live event will feature students developing and constructing their own peer assessment focusing upon the effectiveness of each team member in meetings the event objectives. Students will produce individual evaluative reports drawing on pertinent event evaluation methods and a range of feedback sources. Formative sessions will be practically focused on supporting the students in the plannig and preparation of the event documentation and the development of appropriate peer assessment criteria and its processes.

  • Option Units Sport: A Broader Agenda

    This unit will examine the evidence for, and develop students understanding of, the wider impacts for sport policies and programmes. Though sport is often cited as a potential solution to many social problems, there is some debate as to the nature of the benefits claimed for sport. During your studies you will explore why the contribution of sport to complex and challenging social issues remains contentious.

    Strategic Sports Events Management

    This unit focuses upon the current and future development of sporting events and their impact upon society and the economy, beyond the narrow agenda of health and participation. Content will include both UK and International case studies focusing on the utilisation of events for sporting and non sports agendas.Students will be introduced to strategic sports management theories through in class lectures. Seminar activities will consolidate learning through a range of tasks, workshops and case studies featuring the application of strategy models to sports events case studies. Students will receive guest lectures from industry and sport development representatives in the field of strategic sports management.
