Course programme
Your first year will provide you with knowledge of the key principles and concepts of design, pattern and garment technology. The creative aspects of the course are supported by a strong emphasis on technology and business, so you will study textiles, business management and marketing. Students who demonstrate a strong aptitude for design can undertake some of the creative units from the second year onwards.
Throughout the course you will learn about the process of fashion design and gain practical CAD skills which enable you to present your design ideas and develop your understanding of both manual and computerised pattern construction. You will explore pattern design, sizing and fit, and professional presentation techniques. You will learn to recognise different fabric structures and understand the selection of materials for particular end uses. You will be exposed to the types of design, production and management technologies found in the industry, which are essential for todays informed designer.
