Course programme

Course Content

In Year 1 you will study both subjects equally. The core units in international business explore global business and politics and a range of concepts relating to understanding and managing people, work and behaviour in organisations. In marketing you will study marketing principles and marketing communications theory.

In Year 2 you can continue with equal study or choose a major/minor route and so the units you will study depend on the route you have chosen. International business units currently cover topics such as business accounting, business and sustainability, fundamentals of international business, international trading relations of the European Union, learning and development, managing people, and operations management. Studies in marketing currently include brand communications, consumer relationship management, and marketing organisation and management.

In your final year you can continue with an equal study or major/minor route. A further option in the final year is named route study. If you have chosen to major in international business in Year 2, then you could choose to focus solely on international business in your final year, leading to a BA (Hons) International Business degree. Named route study isn’t currently available in marketing.

The core unit in international business currently covers international business strategy and option units cover topics such as business economics, developing a digital business, international and global marketing, economics and business of the Asia-Pacific region, and North American business and political environment. Marketing studies currently include brand management, competitive marketing strategy, creative communication, and retailing and buying. You will also complete a final year project or dissertation. If you take equal study you can choose to do this unit in either international business or marketing. If you are taking a major or named route, this unit will come from the relevant subject.
