Course programme

Course Content

Lectures cover all aspects of ecology – from evolutionary ecology, behavioural ecology, and fish ecology to global environmental issues – while practicals look at the application of these subjects in the real world.

The core first year covers such topics as global environmental issues, ecology and evolution, landforms and ecosystems and skills for biologists. There is also the opportunity for a residential field course.

Core modules in Year 2 include: Environmental Resource Management, Fish Ecology, Geographical Information Systems and Professional and Research Skills for Biologists. Your optional modules include: Freshwater Biology, Behavioural Ecology, Environmental Pollution and Toxicology, and Canopy Science.

Your Year 3 modules are entirely selected from a range of options, including field courses, and modules that examine particular aspects of ecology and the environment in depth. Modules include: Concepts in Ecology, Topics in Biodiversity and Evolution, Environment and Society, and Marine and Environmental Law.

You will also have the opportunity to undertake a research project within your area of interest and go on a field course to destinations that in recent years have included Brazil, Cuba and Indonesia.
