Course Content Foundation Year

The first year of this course is a general foundation in science. It covers the essentials of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics that you need to prepare for a full science degree.

Year 1

Year 1 of the undergraduate degree has a core first year covering topics such as physical sciences; Earth and environmental systems; diversity of life; introductory ecology; and a residential field course. Options include dive training; global environmental issues or any of the other free elective modules such as Spanish or business management offered on campus.

Years 2 and 3

The final two years allow you to specialise, with topics including: pollution and toxicology; Geographic Information Systems; environmental hazards, environmental impact assessment; and Upland Systems. In Year 3 you have the opportunity to carry out your own independent research project, supervised by a specialist academic in your area of interest, and to go on a field course to destinations that in recent years have included Cuba, Indonesia, Egypt, Italy, Spain, Brazil and Scotland.
