About this course

The study of veterinary microbiology helps us to protect against and treat diseases in animals, from pets to livestock.

Our MSc in Veterinary Microbiology is run in partnership with local, pioneering veterinary research institutes (Pirbright, the Animal and Plant Health Agency and the Veterinary Medicines Directorate). It offers an in-depth understanding of veterinary infectious diseases and global issues such as antimicrobial resistance, and their associated impact on humankind.

This full or part-time course has been designed for graduates, those already working in veterinary diagnostic and research laboratories and staff from other laboratories who want to enhance their understanding of the role of micro-organisms in animal health and disease.

Pharmaceutical research personnel, policymakers, veterinarians, public health personnel and environmental biologists will also benefit from studying our MSc in Veterinary Microbiology.

A minimum of a 2:2 UK honours degree in either Animal Science, Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Biological Sciences (Including Animal Science), Biotechnology, Chemistry, Forensic Science, Medicine, Microbiology, Nutrition, Pharmacology or Veterinary, or Zoology, or a recognised equivalent international qualification. We'll also consider relevant work experience if you don't meet these requirements.
