The programme puts all aspects of animal life under the microscope, from sub-cellular level to ecosystems, combining traditional Zoology and contemporary Biology in an exciting and rewarding course for 21st-century scientists. This four-year degree includes a foundation year, which is ideal if you do not have a strong enough background in biology to meet our direct entry requirements. You can complete your final-year project as a member of one of our research groups or at Hulls award-winning submarium, The Deep. Course programme
In the Foundation Science year students undertake core modules in Foundation Biology, Foundation Science, Foundation Maths 1 and Preparing for Learning in Higher Education; two further optional modules are taken from a selection of Foundation Physics, Foundation Maths 2, Foundation Chemistry, Foundation Computing, Foundation Psychology or Foundation Geography. Success in the foundation year will enable you to progress to Level 4 of the BSc Zoology.
In your second year of study, you will study key concepts and learn key skills through modules including Biodiversity Ecology Evolution Cell Biology Genetics and Skills for Biological Sciences.
Your third year of study includes the core modules Professional and Research Skills for Biologists, Evolutionary Ecology, and Physiology of Animals as well as a choice of modules for your specialisation such as Conservation Biology Evolutionary Biology Behavioural Ecology Biology of the Cell.
Your final year includes a research project which you can complete as a member of one of the facultys research groups or at Hulls award winning submarium, The Deep. You will also study from a range of advanced modules which include Sensory Physiology, Fisheries and Conservation.
