Completing a BA with London Film Academy provides you with extensive on-set experience in a production environment. Our BA pathway offers a unique opportunity for a limited number (maximum 6) of exceptional students with previous experience and knowledge of filmmaking who wish to work along-side our Level 7 (MA equivalent) students to make films. Not only can you achieve a BA in two years, but you experience both a film school and university environment and all this has to offer in terms of networking and access to resources.

Year one: Based at London Film Academy, this is a highly demanding and intense programme that provides students with typically over 30 hours of teaching time per week (substantially more than most other courses). As a multi-disciplinary course, you are instructed in all key filmmaking roles including Directing, Screenwriting, Cinematography, Producing, Sound and Editing. Tutors are leading industry experts, who provide relevant and appropriate guidance and explanation on their crafts. Our low tutor-to-studio ratio (regularly 8 students to each tutor) ensures that students at LFA receive significant feedback and support tailored to their needs. Tutors and staff meet with students regularly to guide and advise on their best chance of getting paid work within the film industry.

Unlike other film schools, all course materials and film budgets are included in your course fees. Using both Super 16mm and high end digital cameras (such as the Arri Alexa or Sony F55) you get to create a broad range of projects.

Year two: Following successful completion of the course at LFA students then continue their studies at University of Hertfordshire to achieve their BA hons qualification.

Course programme

Term 1
During Term 1 at LFA you recieve 8 weeks of full-time classes in Directing, Screenwriting, Cinematography, Sound and Editing. You are expected to attend for 6-8 hours each day, from Monday – Friday.
Term 2
Your second term commences with an intense course in producing. You are taught extensively in the Business of Film as well as how to perform the role of a production manager or line producer, having been introduced to Movie Magic Budgeting and Scheduling.
Term 3
The model of your final term is similar to that of the second term. The focus is on the production of an 8-minute film, so once more, everyone within the class writes and develops a script, and potential directors are asked to pitch for their chosen projects. The films made in the final term have bigger budgets and more time allocated to their production.
