Applied learning

Work placements

You will have the opportunity to arrange a year-long work placement in between your second and third years. This gives you a real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. Students have previously applied their learning, developed their skills and increased their knowledge and experience at companies such as Burberry, Diesel, Alexander McQueen, Topshop, Animal, Dune and Iris Van Herpen.

Live projects

During your second year some projects are 'live'. These mirror the experience of fashion industry employment. You undertake project work as a direct response to a brief set by an industrial 'client'. Live projects often include a 'behind the scenes' visit to the client's retail, design or manufacturing facilities and receive a briefing from them to set the context and scope of the project.

Field trips

Fashion and cultural trips are a key part of the learning experience (additional costs apply). There is normally a UK field trip in the first year and an international field trip during the second year. During the international field trips, you visit design consultancies, industrial facilities, fashion stores and headquarters, museums and exhibitions.

Competitions

You may get the opportunity to enter the Berlin Film Festival, RSA Student Design Awards, Diversity Now and the Fashion Awareness Direct. This gives you the chance to enhance your profile in the management and communications side of the fashion industry.
