This award equips you with the relevant skills and knowledge to pursue a career in accountancy, finance, banking and a wide range of management roles.

The programme has been designed specifically to provide you with maximum exemptions from internationally recognised accounting professional body examinations, giving you a head start when it comes to qualifying as an accountant. In addition to your academic studies, you will also be trained in the use of accounting software, analytical skills and report writing and further employability skills which will enable you to better adapt to the rapidly changing environment of work.

All students have the opportunity to take an optional placement year providing valuable workplace experience and significantly improving your employability on graduation. In addition, during your studies you will have the opportunity to meet with accounting and business practitioners through guest lectures and other special events.

About this course

At the end of this course you will be able to:

Construct, using digital and other methods, a range of accounting and financial information useful to the management of organisations.
Critically analyse financial accounting and business information from a range of national and international sources.
Critically discuss current financial accounting and business issues.
Provide solutions to financial and accounting issues and problems.
Critically discuss the role of accounting in the management of organisations.

This award provides enhanced employment opportunities in the financial sector. Specifically through its exemptions from Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualifications it provides a fast route to gaining a professional accountancy qualification. These accountancy qualifications are internationally recognised so a career in accountancy will enable successful students to broaden their careers into an international arena. The BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance award will also enhance the opportunities of successful students in the fields of banking, finance, financial services and business management, by providing an enhanced exposure to accounting, finance and business knowledge and skills.

The degree can also be used as the basis for postgraduate study. For example, the Business School has an MSc Professional Accounting & Finance which provides an opportunity for you to both complete your ACCA qualifications and also gain a Masters in Accounting and Finance within an eighteen month period. You will be in a unique position of having an excellent academic and professional qualification taught by market leaders in both fields. You will have the knowledge and ability to succeed in the world of finance.
