Modules

-Module Title:Managing Self and Others
Aims: to nurture and facilitate the development of those skills associated with personal development and work relationships.
Credits: 20
Assessment:Production of a learning diary showing evidenced attainment of learning outcomes. This will describe a relevant situation: outline lessons derived; propose a plan; show how implemented including an analysis of the labour environment of a specific company and a critical analysis of the company’s response.

-Module Title: Strategic Management
Aims: describe elements embedded within an effective business strategy planning process; how they evolve throughout the business cycle; describe key management issues and impact on strategic business aspects.
Credits: 20
Assessment:Case study based coursework. Analysis of a problem and recommendation of how the company might proceed in order to derive competitive advantage taking full account of any commercial or other risks.

-Module Title: Emerging Business Themes
Aims: Introduce the student to a range of contemporary and emerging issues in management and provide a critical understanding of such themes. Exposure to a range of current management tools.
Credits: 20
Assessment: Individual assessment based on the application of specific themes to an organisation. Students select a theme and relate this to an organisation; provide critical analysis of the implementation and, using appropriate theory, make suggestions for improvement.

-Module Title:Financial Decision Making
Aims: to provide an understanding of a firm’s financial, distribution and risk management decisions.
Credits: 20
Assessment: 24 hour assignment. A test to be completed within 24 hours that will require application of financial techniques; use of spreadsheets; and analysis of the financial aspects of international trade.

-Module Title: Marketing Strategy
Aims: differentiate between specific concepts and features of strategic as opposed to tactical marketing. Develop ability to appraise and apply a conceptual and theoretical perspective on marketing strategy.
Credits: 20
Assessment: Case study based coursework requiring the analysis of marketing issues and the development of recommendations for action based on theoretical principals and practicalities together with an implementation plan.

-Module Title: Project Management
Aims: Equip students with the knowledge and skills to understand relevance and significance of project management principals in an organisational context. Enable demonstration of competence in the application of project management methods through the project life cycle.
Credits: 20
Assessment:Coursework 100% individual organisation based assessment. Critical review of a project with which the student is familiar and proposals on how the implementation might have been improved.
